GAHTC
Where tech meets humanity for epic collaborations and life-changing innovations!
Overview
The Global Alliance for the Humanitarian Technology Community (GAHTC) is dedicated to elevate humanitarian efforts through technology and collaboration. The existing web app needed a complete overhaul to boost user engagement, streamline resource access, and encourage collaboration among stakeholders. This case study details the journey of revamping GAHTC's platform to create a more intuitive experience, increase the visibility of crucial content, and encourage meaningful interactions within the humanitarian community.
Objective
The main goal was to elevate the platform by crafting a more engaging and accessible design that facilitates easy resource access and promotes collaboration. The redesign aimed to improve navigation, level-up mobile experience, and refine the overall user engagement. Moreover, the updated site integrated features for seamless content sharing and community interaction, aligning with GAHTC’s mission to advance humanitarian technology initiatives.
Scope of Work
- Developed a fresh, intuitive interface that engaged user and visual appeal while ensuring easy access to essential information.
- Created a fully responsive design for a seamless experience across all devices, including smartphones and tablets.
- Level-up site navigation to increase user pathways, simplifying the process of locating resources, events, and key content.
- Implemented an intuitive CMS to empower GAHTC staff to regularly update content without needing technical assistance.
- Integrated an interactive map to showcase global humanitarian initiatives, allowing users to explore projects and resources by region.
- Introduced forums and discussion boards to encourage interaction and collaboration within the humanitarian technology community.
- Designed dedicated sections for resources, reports, and research to ensure easy access to critical information.
- Improved website performance and search engine optimization to boost visibility and attract organic traffic.
- Conducted user testing sessions to gather valuable feedback and made iterative improvements based on real user experiences.
Challenge
The existing GAHTC website struggled with user engagement and resource accessibility, making it difficult for stakeholders to navigate through vast amounts of information. Users often found it challenging to connect with relevant content, leading to frustration and missed opportunities for collaboration. One of the primary obstacles was the lack of a visual representation of global humanitarian initiatives, which made it hard for users to understand the geographic context of various projects. Additionally, the outdated design and complicated navigation contributed to a disjointed user experience, hampering the community's efforts to foster collaboration and knowledge sharing.
Solution
To tackle these challenges, we introduced an interactive map feature that allows users to visually explore global humanitarian initiatives. This feature transformed the way stakeholders accessed and engaged with the content by providing a dynamic, intuitive interface where users could click on different regions to discover ongoing projects, resources, and events. By integrating this map, we made information more accessible and engaging, encouraging users to interact with the content and each other.
The redesign also included streamlined navigation, improved mobile responsiveness, and the integration of forums for collaboration. Together, these solutions enhanced the user experience, facilitated meaningful interactions, and supported GAHTC’s mission of advancing humanitarian technology initiatives. With the new interactive map, users could not only find resources more easily but also visualize the global impact of their efforts, creating a sense of community and shared purpose within the humanitarian technology sector.
